About Us
Why Barkingham Palace is Better
There has been a rise in what we call “Kennel Mills” – facilities owned by corporations or investment companies, managed by employees with limited or no experience with pets. In contrast, Barkingham Palace (BP) has earned a reputation as one of the best boarding facilities in Brevard for several reasons. Below, we outline how BP stands apart from the competition.
- Experienced Ownership
Barkingham Palace (BP) is owned by Candi Pearce, a reputable dog breeder whose dogs have earned champion titles. With her deep knowledge of canine needs, Candi is intimately involved in the daily operations of the facility and brings a wealth of experience and understanding of the needs of pets, especially dogs. She understands the best practices for pet care, ensuring that BP provides a safe, comfortable, and enriching experience for every pet. As both a breeder and dog owner, Candi recognizes that the pets boarded at BP are more than just animals – they are beloved members of the family and she ensures they receive the best care possible.
2. Proper Potty Protocol
At BP, all dogs are taken out to a designated field to potty, rather than being left in their cages or enclosed in an indoor area. This maintains the important distinction that potty time is outside, not in their living space. This approach helps prevent confusion in potty training, ensuring your dog continues to follow established routines. Many kennel mills, on the other hand, allow dogs to relieve themselves in their cages or in open rooms on the floor, which can lead to behavioral issues when your dog returns home. When you tour BP, you’re welcome to walk through all the areas, including the cage spaces. We believe in full transparency – something kennel mills may avoid by only showing you the facility through a glass window to hide potential odors and conditions.
3. Experienced Staff
Our staff is a dedicated, experienced team; with many years of service at BP. The most senior employee has been with us for 22 years, and we have a team of individuals across various age groups. Younger staff members are always supervised by experienced managers, ensuring your pet receives the highest quality of care. While kennel mills may have lower payroll costs, this often means less experienced staff. At BP, we prioritize experience because it directly impacts the quality of care. For example, our team can assess the personalities of dogs during playtime, ensuring they interact peacefully, additionally, experienced staff can recognize signs of stress and act quickly to resolve any issues.
4. On-Site Overnight Management
BP has an on-site manager who lives on the premises, ensuring that your pet is never alone during the night. This allows us to address any emergencies or concerns immediately. Kennel mills often do not provide overnight supervision, which can lead to delays in addressing potential issues.
We invite you to visit BP and tour our facilities at your convenience. We believe in transparency and are happy to show you the care and attention we prvide to every pet that stays with us.

We Love the Space Coast
It was easy to choose to build in Brevard County–our hometown. We were lucky to have seen many shuttle launches, including this one in April 2002 when Atlantis blasted off.
Our Expansion
On May 1st, 2009 we officially opened our boarding expansion, which added 7 luxury suites and 20 enclosure suites. This increased our boarding capacity by 40% so that we could accommodate the increased demand. We added two murals (The Pond, shown here, and The Shore) on the walls opposite the new suites. These murals were painted for us by Al Rao, famous for decorating local schools and several walls in Cocoa Village.
